From the desk of OUM President & Vice Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Mansor Fadzil.
Life presents all of us with opportunities to reach many milestones – from birth to the first step, from school performances to the first pay cheque, from learning what we are made of to learning what we can achieve. Everyone’s life experience is different, yet at its core, each milestone marks the same thing – an accomplishment worthy of celebration.
While some find personal growth and success through unencumbered paths, for others, the path may seem less clear. Unforeseen calamities may get in the way, thus compelling some to shelve their ambitions as they hope for better days.
What makes OUM learners so unique is that they take an untraditional route to university education. Many did not have the luxury of pursuing studies in their younger days. Many are also working adults who juggle multiple responsibilities and obligations. Their studies are often hindered by various obstacles, yet through perseverance and hard work, many are able to complete their studies to reach a very special milestone with us.
At the recent OUM 19th Convocation, we celebrated this joyous occasion with all our graduating learners, just as we have done with almost 70,000 previous graduates who, over the past 16 years since the University’s establishment, have proven that success is possible at any age and in any circumstance.
We also be hosted our partners from Vietnam and the Maldives at this momentous event. The Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, (Dr) Kieu Tuan, and Rector of Villa College, Dr Ahmed Anwar, received honorary doctorates. We hope our friendship and collaboration will progress even further in the years ahead.
Lastly, my heartiest wish is for you this coming new yearn is that you have the opportunity to follow your dreams and find success in it. Moreover, may your success inspire others to follow in your footsteps.
